Hardware recommendation for Unity with iRender
If you are working in the game industry, you will definitely know Unity. It’s one of the best application for developers from all kinds. Whether you are an indie amateur, or a professional in a big studio across the world, you can always find Unity as a powerhouse engines. To be able to work on Unity, you will need a list of configuration. On the website of Unity, you can find the documentation, but it’s just for the minimum needs and not updated for a very long time. In this article, let’s find out the hardware recommendation for Unity with iRender.
Hardware recommendation for Unity with iRender
Operating system
Windows 7 (SP1+), Windows 10 and Windows 11
macOS High Sierra 10.13+
Linux Ubuntu 20.04, Ubuntu 18.04, and CentOS 7
Processor (CPU)
Processor or CPU could play the most important part of Unity development workstation. In every application, it’s for the the loading and working, and with Unity it’s more than that. Unity could be used for game, film, animation, architecture, visualization, etc. And in any fields, if you are serious, you will need a fast CPU. A recommendation would be a fast, high-clocking, high core count, high single core performance CPU.
AMD or Intel, both are okay. You should go with the latest generations, at least 6 cores/12threads.
The best choice will be AMD Ryzen 9 7000X series. More cores, the better. This series has more than 2000 single core performance, high clock from 4.5 to 4.7GHz.
If you are working in heavily threaded tasks like light baking, compiling, AMD Threadripper Pro series would be faster than Ryzen. Many recommend 5000WX series, or 3000WX series is also a decent choice. 5000WX series will have higher core count than 3000WX, but the clock speed and single core performance don’t have much difference.
Video Card (GPU)
It’s hard to identify a graphics card for Unity. Currently, Unity doesn’t need much of graphics card for its tasks. However, when you are working with Unity, you will not just use the software but other ones as well, and a good GPU will give you a higher FPS in the viewport, so recommendation would be at least 6 GB VRAM. An Nvidia GPU like RTX 3060 or an AMD RX 6600 is okay.
Memory (RAM)
Even if for Unity alone or for multi applications, 16 GB of RAM is the minimum. However, depends on your specific project, on RAM-intensive tasks like light building, on other RAM-intensive programs, you will need more than that. We would recommend 64GB+ RAM.
Storage (Drives)
A hard drive like NVMe SSD will be expensive, but it’s worthy because sometimes you need a faster option for your project.
Our solution for Unity users: server package 3S
iRender provide to you high performance and configurable server system for 3D rendering, AI Training, VR & AR, simulation, etc. We believe that design and creative activities are private and personal that only you artists will know what you want with your animation. That’s the reason why we provide remote server so that you can install any software you need, and do whatever you like with your project.
You will only need to install your software for the first time, and next time you connect to the computer everything is ready for use.
Our famous server package 3S is one of the most powerful and reasonable package for Unity.
The configuration from graphics card, RAM, Storage are all suitable and more than enough for Unity. CPU – the most important factor – is AMD Ryzen Threadripper Pro 3955WX. The core count is 16, 32 threads and 3.9GHZ clock speed. The single core performance of this CPU is 1401, a nice score which is not so much different from that of 5000WX series. (see single core performance of your CPU here)
Plus, at iRender, we provide you more support than just those config.
Free and convenient transferring tool
iRender offers a powerful and free file transfer tool: iRender drive/Gpuhub Sync. With fast file transfer speed, large data capacity, and completely free. You can transfer all the necessary data into our iRender drive/Gpuhub Sync tool at any time without connecting to the server. The data will be automatically synchronized in the Z drive inside the server, ready for you to use.
Flexible price
The price for package 3S is $23.12 for 3 hours rental. You can always save more from 10% to 20% with a daily/ weekly/monthly rental package.
Real human 24/7 support
Our support is always online 24/7 via livechat, helping you to handle the problem quickly, effectively, saving you both time and money.
With the above advantages and the machine configuration package that iRender has just released, we believe that Unity users will have the most comfortable, quickest, and most effective rendering/working time.
