How to fix Redshift isn't showing up in the toolbar

Today in this article, let’s talk about one of the frustrating errors of Redshift when you use it with Cinema 4D: Redshift isn’t showing up in the toolbar even if you have installed it.

Firstly, let’s check if your machine matches the required specifications:

• • • • Operating Systems: Microsoft Windows: 64-bit Windows 10 & Windows 11
      • 16 GB of RAM
      • 64-bit processor with AVX2 support
      • NVIDIA GPU with CUDA compute capability 5.0 or higher and 8 GB VRAM, or AMD RDNA 2 or later with 8 GB VRAM or more
      • RedshiftRT requires an Nvidia GPU with RTX capability on Windows 10 & 11

If you use the version before R20, you can use the usual method of installing the Redshift plugin which is to create a “plugins” folder in your Cinema 4D installation path C:\Program Files\Maxon Cinema 4D R20\plugins on Windows and install Redshift there.
If you use Redshift newer version, there’s another method to install the plugin. Although Redshift, by default, will try to use this old method, you can force it to use the new method instead; here’s how to do that:

Step 1: If Redshift is already installed in your computer, uninstall it.

Step 2: Run the Redshift installer again.

This time instead of installing to the default location, create a new folder on your computer and tell the Redshift installer to install Redshift there:

Step 3: Install Redshift to that folder.

You will get the notification warning that no Cinema 4D installation was detected in that folder; this is fine. Click “Yes” and proceed with the installation:

Step 4: Once the installation is complete, If you have your Redshift license through Redshift itself, you will need to run the licensing tool to license the plugin first. If you have a Cinema 4D + Redshift bundle subscription you can just quit the installer without running the Redshift licensing tool.

Step 5: After you finish re-installing Redshift, just launch Cinema 4D and go to the Edit menu > Preferences > Plugins > click Add Folder button near the bottom:

Step 6: Select the folder you created and installed Redshift there:

Step 7: Restart Cinema 4D and you should see Redshift appear normally:
