How to install OctaneRender for 3ds Max?

OctaneRender and Autodesk 3ds Max both are effective tools for 3D field. In some previous article, we have explored the suitable and recommended hardware for them, and we know which iRender’s server you should choose for your project. In this article, let’s find out how to install OctaneRender for 3ds Max. You can follow this instruction on your personal computer, or on our remote server. Let’s get started.

You will need to prepare some of the following:

• • • • • 3ds Max Plugin– v2019.x license for the 3ds Max plugin. If you do not own a v2019.x plugin you can purchase it or upgrade your existing license.
        • Standalone Edition– V3 license for the Standalone Edition. If you do not own a V3 Standalone Edition you can purchase it or upgrade your existing license.
        • Matching Version Numbers– License version numbers must be identical (e.g.v4.05 Standalone and v4.05 3ds Max plugin).
        • 3ds Max Host Application– 3ds Max host application 2013 – 2020.
        • Hardware– NVIDIA graphics card that supports CUDA 10.1 with the latest drivers. You can find the download links for Windows here.

Step 1) Download and install the OctaneRender Standalone Edition. If you already have a Standalone license activated on your computer, you can skip this step.

*Note: You should make sure that the 3ds Max host application is not running in the background while you are installing the plugin.

Step 2) Download the software from the Latest Additions to OctaneRender and run the plugin installer (you will need to be admin in order to do this).

Step 3) While you are installing the program, you will be prompted to choose from a list of components. Please make sure to only install the components you want.

Now you set the plugin into 3ds Max

Step 4) Open the 3ds Max application. If you did not activate your Standalone license, you will be prompted to enter your Otoy account credentials.

Step 5) Open the 3ds Max application and go to the Render Setup Menu. You can do this by:

      • Main toolbar > (Render Setup)

Step 6) Open the Renderer dropdown and assign the OctaneRender™ for 3dsMax® plugin.

Now you have successfully installed the OctaneRender for 3ds Max plugin and can start using it.
