The best cloud rendering service for 3ds Max and FStorm

3ds Max is a computer graphics program for creating 3D models, animations, and digital images. It’s a product from Autodesk. With a long history in the industry, and a robust toolset, it’s a favourite among game developers, architects, and TV commercial studios.

FStorm is a GPU-only renderer being developed by PinkSoft LTD since 2015 and becomes one of the most popular GPU render with architectural 3d artists due to its speed, quality and simplicity.  It is one of the best render engines for 3Dsmax. FStorm is straightforward, fast, and realistic with convenient materials and light sources.

In this article, iRender guides you on why choose FStorm for 3ds Max, the system requirements and the fastest FStorm’s Cloud Rendering service.

1. Why choose FStorm for 3ds Max?

FStormRender is deeply integrated to 3ds max environment and supports all necessary features. Right now, it only supports 3ds Max version 2014-2024. Hope that in the future it will be available for other 3d modeling software. If you work in other render engines like V-Ray, Corona, Octane, you can easily convert them to FStorm scene through the scene converter in the Tools. This is very useful for anyone who wants to experience the greatness of FStorm but still works in other renderers.

FStorm is an unbiased GPU renderer, which means that it makes full use of the GPU while rendering. When you compare to other famous renderers of 3ds Max like Corona, V-Ray, Lumion, Twinmotion, D5 Render, etc., you realize some are only CPU renderers, some are not really good when it comes to GPU rendering, some only use maximum one GPU to render. FStorm uses GPU to render, and can scale really well when it comes to multi-GPU rendering, which is good for your render time.

Although FStorm is kind of new, it’s still developing and has so many potentials. Right now it’s one of the best renderers for architects (both interior and exterior). Slowly, it will emerge in product designing and rendering.

2. System requirements for 3ds Max and Fstorm

For 3ds Max

        • Operating system: 64-bit Microsoft® Windows® 11 and Windows 10
        • Processor CPU: 64-bit Intel® or AMD® multi-core processor with SSE4.2 instruction set
        • Memory RAM: 4GB minimum (8 GB or more recommended)
        • Storage: 9 GB of free disk space for install

For FStorm

        • Operating system: 64-bit Microsoft® Windows® 11 and Windows 10
        • Processor CPU: FStormRender uses CPU for the scene compilation. CPU must support SSE 4.1 instructions
        • Graphic card GPU: NVIDIA GPU series 4xx or higher is required. Recommended modern GeForce GPUs with up-to-date video driver. Tesla and Quadro GPUs don’t have any benefits for rendering
        • Memory RAM: no information about that, but we think it should be as minimum as 3ds Max
        • Storage: no information about that, but we think it should be minimum as 3ds Max

Our Solution for 3ds Max with Fstorm users: Fstorm's Cloud Rendering Service

iRender provide to you high performance and configurable server system for 3D rendering, AI Training, VR & AR, simulation, etc. We believe that design and creative activities are private and personal that only you artists will know what you want with your animation. That’s the reason why we provide remote servers so that you can install any software you need, and do whatever you like with your project.

You will only need to install your software for the first time, and next time you connect to the computer everything is ready for use.

Because Fstorm for 3ds Max can utilize the power of GPU rendering, we have established some of the fastest server packages (Fstorm’s Cloud Rendering Service) with RTX4090 and RTX3090.

You can see that our configurations above are all more than enough to have a project in 3ds Max with FStorm renderer run smoothly. Processor is an AMD Ryzen ThreadripperRAM is 256GB and Storage is NVMe SSD with 2TB. With those configs, you can be assured that your scene will load faster, more stable when running with multiple software.

Come to the most important factor: Graphics card (GPU). Because FStorm developer recommends using GeForce cards, we will check the render times of famous GeForce GPUs like RTX 3090, RTX 4080 and RTX 4090. All of them render the Benchmark scene 2 from FStorm in the FStorm’s forum.

In this table of render times, we all see that RTX 4090 is the fastest. RTX 4090 only takes 52 seconds to render the scene in full HD. If you add more GPUs, the render time reduces significantly by about 2.9 times. It’s not a perfect 4 times faster, but it’s still impressive.

Compared to RTX 3090 or RTX 4080, the render time of RTX 4090 is about 76% and 57% faster. The results are kind of the same as Redshift and Blender, where RTX 4090 is often 70% faster than RTX 3090.

If you have more GPUs, the render time will reduce more. However, don’t expect a perfectly linear reduction.

At iRender, we provide you more support than just those config.

Free and convenient transferring tool

iRender offers a powerful and free file transfer tool: iRender drive. With fast file transfer speed, large data capacity, and completely free. You can transfer all the necessary data into our iRender drive tool at any time without connecting to the server. The data will be automatically synchronized in the Z drive inside the server, ready for you to use.

The tool is also integrated into iRender GPU app, an all in one application where you can free your workflow from accessing iRender website, and just have to work on the iRender GPU app.

Flexible price

Beside hourly rental, you can always save from 10% to 20% with our Fixed Rental feature. For those who’s in need of a server for more than a day, or have extremely large projects, we advise to choose a daily/ weekly/monthly rental package. The discount is attractive (up to 10% for daily packages, 20% on weekly and monthly packages), and you don’t have to worry about over-charging if you forget to shutdown the server.

Real human 24/7 support service

With us, it does not matter where you are present – as long as you are connected to the internet, you can access and enjoy the 24/7 rendering services that we provide, and if you meet any issue, our real human 24/7 support team is always ready to support you.

Rendering service supports powerful RTX4090/3090s

When you use iRender, you can free your computer during the hardest and most arduous part – rendering. That is also the reason that Render Farm service is becoming more and more popular and essential. However, as far as we know, iRender is proud to be one of the very few rendering service that support powerful RTX4090 and RTX3090 for 3ds Max and FStorm with relatively reasonable price.

With the above advantages and the machine configuration package that iRender has just released, we believe that 3ds Max and FStorm users will have the most comfortable, quickest, and most effective rendering time.
